An analysis of connectivity and function in hippocampal associative memory

چکیده

We discuss eeects of realistically dilute connectivity on a neural network previously proposed as a model of hippocampal associative memory. Several criteria for setting neuronal activation thresholds are studied. Even with optimal thresholding, dilution induces a substantial information loss in stored patterns compared to presented patterns. Consequently, a stricter constraint than previous ones arises on the model's storage capacity. Furthermore, we argue that such constraints depend sensitively on the speciic, subjective criteria chosen for storage quality. We thus propose that additional performance measures be considered. In particular, the relationship between ring rates of original and attractor patterns is discussed.

Targeted enhancement of cortical-hippocampal brain networks and associative memory.

The influential notion that the hippocampus supports associative memory by interacting with functionally distinct and distributed brain regions has not been directly tested in humans. We therefore used targeted noninvasive electromagnetic stimulation to modulate human cortical-hippocampal networks and tested effects of this manipulation on memory. Multiple-session stimulation increased function...

The Effect of 4 Weeks of Aerobic Training on Spatial Learning, Memory Performance and Mitochondrial Dynamics in the Hippocampal Tissue of Old Rats

Background & objectives: Mitochondrial dysfunction is one of the main risk factors for neurological diseases which are associated with aging. On the other hand, aerobic exercise has beneficial effects on the brain health and cognitive function, and also improves mitochondrial dynamics. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of 4 weeks of aerobic exercise on spatia...

Associative encoding and retrieval are predicted by functional connectivity in distinct hippocampal area CA1 pathways.

Determining how the hippocampus supports the unique demands of memory encoding and retrieval is fundamental for understanding the biological basis of episodic memory. One possibility proposed by theoretical models is that the distinct computational demands of encoding and retrieval are accommodated by shifts in the functional interaction between the hippocampal CA1 subregion and its input struc...

Enhanced Brain Correlations during Rest Are Related to Memory for Recent Experiences

Long-term storage of episodic memories is hypothesized to result from the off-line transfer of information from the hippocampus to neocortex, allowing a hippocampal-independent cortical representation to emerge. However, off-line hippocampal-cortical interactions have not been demonstrated to be linked with long-term memory. Here, using functional magnetic resonance imaging, we examined if hipp...

اثر تمرین اینتروال با شدت بالا بر حافظه اجتنابی غیر‌فعال و سطوح کورتیکوسترون هیپوکمپی موش‌های صحرایی نر

Background and Objectives: So far the effectiveness of high-intensity interval training on learning and memory has remained unknown. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the effect of high intensity interval training on hippocampal corticosterone levels and passive avoidance memory in male rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 40 male Wistar rats were placed into 5 groups (n...
